Our Story & Vision
When our original “Southie Pride” sign was targeted, the beautiful wave of solidarity that followed—pouring in from our immediate neighbors here in Southie and from communities far beyond—proved that the true heart of our city is filled with kindness, dignity, and resilience.
But solidarity is an action word. We aren’t waiting until next summer to keep this momentum going. We are launching a year-round movement to ensure that every neighbor, visitor, and small business owner feels safe, seen, and celebrated in Southie every single day.
This is a brand-new, exploratory phase. We are building the roadmap from scratch together—nothing is set in stone, and we truly need your help to shape it. We want this movement to be shaped entirely by the community. To get the conversation started, we’ve put together three initial project concepts based on immediate neighborhood needs. These are just ideas to react to—we need your feedback, your tweaks, and your completely new concepts.
IMMEDIATE FOCUS:
The Fall Pumpkin Gathering
Autumn is just around the corner, and it’s our first official opportunity to gather as a neighborhood. We are planning a festive, welcoming community pumpkin carving and painting gathering for local families. Right now, we need volunteers, planning committee members, and neighbors to help us lock down spaces, logistics, and supplies for this fall.
The Pride Mural Project (June 2027 Launch)
We want to bring a permanent, public inclusivity mural to life right here in South Boston, debuting for Pride Month in June 2027. We are starting the early exploratory phases now: calling on local mural artists to collaborate on visions, collecting community feedback on themes, and seeking property owners willing to donate exterior wall space.
The Visibility & Inclusion Storefront Project (June 2027 Launch)
We are organizing a major storefront campaign for June 2027 to bring custom welcoming displays, neighborhood signage, and Pride flags directly to the windows of local Southie businesses so our main streets permanently reflect our collective values.
